Hello From The Street of Tsi Sam Tsui! (HongKong Shopping & Eating Highlight)

Sep 29, 2016

Well hello you!
(Hong Kong - July 2016)
So here is the post that took forever to create... Ni Hao!

Busy streets are what HongKong is. It is a dangerous marriage between fantastic food and cheaper shopping; a match made by heaven. Definitely a place you'd chose to be stranded at, especially if you are a big time shopaholic.

My trip to HongKong was the extension of the previous Macau and Shenzhen visit. Of course if you asked me HongKong is definitely my favorite out of the three. For shopping, and the food, yes, but after Shenzhen it was very nice to communicate verbally like a normal human in English.
Lesson learned: Don't go to China without understanding basic Chinese.
(Well you still really can go, if you are adventurous. I survived, but it'd be very nice if someone in the group at least understand what's happening. Alas, the infamous rude locals are not really helping.)

Shopping Highlight: Times Square in Causeway Bay

Times Square is a huge huge shopping mall for numerous brands from Fendi to Zara, to Tory Burch and Salvatore Ferragamo. I am just a casual shopper, but I find the cheaper price to be specifically alluring. It is even cheaper than similar stores in Tsi Sam Tsui. I ended up carrying more bags out than planned. Actually, the whole Causeway Bay area is a one go shopping experience that took a whole day, but you won't really have anything left from your wishlist afterwards.

Anyway, that is that but if you are into sneakers, I understand some very rare specific model can't be found in just another store, and the good news is that it's apparent that HongKong is into sneakers too! There are two places I'd especially recommend for its collection and price, but it is all Nike. Sorry, Yeezy-freaks.

1. Nike Lab in Tsi Sam Tsui area

If I am a professional photographer, the photo above would entitled: "Kevin, A Smile, and A Pair of Nike: An Arguably Rare Sneakers in a Very Reasonable Price."

2. Kicks Lounge in Harbour City Mall, Tsi Sam Tsui

Le me getting myself a pair of Nike. Not really a part of the sneakers hype, but this is probably a love from the first sight. Everyone, the very first sneakers I choose myself voluntarily! A cookie point added because the staffs here are very nice and helpful too (by HongKong standard, though).

Eating Highlight: Tim Ho Wan in Sham Shui Po

If I were to choose one, it'd definitely be Tim Ho Wan, which is the cheapest Michelin Stars restaurant in the world. They are everywhere now, really -- from Jakarta to Singapore and even Melbourne, but honestly the original branch is what matters.

Situation update early in the morning. Felt like entering Taylor Swift's concert hall all over again!

The so called oldest branch is located in the area of Sham Shui Po after the original original in Mong Kok being closed down due to renting issue. Honestly, it is not so easy to find after you stepped out from the Sham Shui Po MTR Station, but thankfully it is shown accurately in Google Maps.

Food porn alert, you have been warned!

It is definitely one of the best dimsum I've ever had in my life, and trust me I've had plenty. They are all delicious, but here is what I think win the day: The Best BBQ Buns in the world.

I know I said I'd chose, but here are the honorable mentions around Tsi Sam Tsui area:
If you are sucker for mangoes like me, this Mango & Mango Jelly in Mango Juice from Hui Lau Shan booth is a heaven at HK$39.

BBQ Duck & Pork Belly Rice of Yuen Kee Restaurant. This one so called local favorite is probably not magically delicious, but you can't really be wrong with duck and pork belly. And they are generous with  the portions!

If you want to try something fancier, there is one cozy place in Gochiso: The Med Dining Tokyo Style inside the K11 Mall.

They are doing exceptionally well with the fusion. Do try their unique Japanese Style Rice Cake with Cod Roe Pizza and their Grilled Angus T-Bones Steak which tasted amazing!

I swear I can go on and repeat a full eating itinerary for 7 days trip, but okay I'm done here! Thank you for reaching this far and keeping up with me.

Well. HongKong has been nice to me.
Definitely would go back whenever I got the chance, especially because I didn't get the chance to try that famous salted-egg yolk toast breakfast! Shame, shame.

Until then.
x, Michelle
