When You Are So Deep in Youtube...

May 30, 2017

You found something interesting.

For me, it is surprising to find how much I've missed out the entire pop music scenes, considering how much a Swifties I was. I definitely am not a music person; meaning that music is not really my essential life supply, but sure I love listening to the music every now and then on Spotify. On Youtube the other day I just found out that Katy Perry has just released her new album (with a song dissing Taylor Swift), and Hailee Steinfeld is the new it girl, and that Ed Sheeran's Galway Girl is sooooo good. For someone who used to follow Hollywood Life account on Twitter, I've been gone for too long, haven't I?

Speaking of which, I spent so much my time lately devoted to bands people so-called indies; Kodaline, The Kooks, Purity Ring, and the list goes on--and I just love their approach of music that is so much broad and bold and appealing. Yet, liking those indie music is suddenly what cool kids do, and I feel judged for trying to be one when really, all I want to do is hearing the music I like. So you are judged for liking "crap music" and also judged when liking indies. Basically, you are judged for everything when you are not an extreme. Can't I like Ed Sheeran and The 1985 at the same time?

I found it really funny, the world we live in right now, because groups of people are constantly judging another groups of people solely for their taste of music, their taste of fashion, or even their taste of living. I have this conversation so long time ago with a friend who is a big night clubber, and she felt judged so much by the society. But by saying that those people are nerd, boring, and don't know how to have fun, doesn't she also? The term "open minded" has been falsely squared into being acceptant for party, night life, alcohol, and all those similar things. In fact, it is also about some people that just love reading, but okay that her friend is party 24/7, or that her another friend is OCD. We all have different lives and just like our taste of music, people have different taste of it.

Trying to rationalize some people's taste for yourself is weird, but the good news is: you don't have to. I'll never found the beauty of metal music, but some people did. You'll never found the happiness in the life I live, over well-written books and a cup of tea, preferably somewhere the ripples of the sea can be heard, but I did.

x, Michelle
