Bangkok Café Hoping (10 Cafés to Try in Bangkok!)

Aug 21, 2019

Finally, a post! Honestly, this long overdue post might have been there on my draft for some time now, screaming to be finished. My recent trip to Bangkok in November 2018 was especially pretty in pictures, because we dedicate big time in the cafe hopping--and because I have my own personal photographer Jen during this trip. I have to say, we make such a perfect guide&photographer combo!

Oh in terms of those nice cafes, Bangkok surely didn't disappoint! How they are taking cafes seriously can be compared of those in Jakarta. After all, we share so much similarities in everything too! Just like what I said during my last trip here, Bangkok is not really the one to chill and relax your mind on. In fact, it'll be crazier than most of your regular day, because there is so much to see, try, eat, and... shop. Girls, dedicate at least one day for Platinum shopping day and thank me later.

1. Ink & Lion

Ink & Lion, for a start, have one of the best cups of coffee in Bangkok. I'm not a coffee expert or anything, but I must say theirs and Coffee No. 9's are my favorite ones. Their small, retro, trendy vibes space is so likeable, I could picture myself hanging there working on my laptop if I ever lived there in Bangkok. It was located in Ekkamai, just a walking distance from our hotel, alongside so many great cafes nearby.

2. Heiji

This small establishment is located inside a small alley, far away from the all the other hip cafe district. This might be the indie cafe of Bangkok, with all the cool kids inside sitting in the bar and talking casually with the barista kind-of-feeling. Because of its lively environment during the afternoon we were visiting, trying to hide from the sun outside, I remember the drink tasted heavenly.  Heiji has unique blend of beverages--it's really not just an ordinary coffee shop; but now, now, I really couldn't come to remember the exact name of the one I was ordering, but don't hesitate to ask the cool looking barista!

4. Hands & Heart

This pretty all white cafe is life! Its beautiful, minimalist looking interior serves as an absolute aesthetic pleasure for everyone. I know I said about what a hectic trip Bangkok always was, but for a few hours here we were like transported to one chic coffee shop in Omotesando. One thing I remember is their specialty hand brewed coffee, and you might be a noob like me but the barista was kind enough to explain in amazingly really good English! Heard it was really popular already, so you might want to come early like us to really enjoy the beautiful space too.

5. Sometimes I Feel
Probably the one with name I love the most. Being in Sometimes I Feel feels like hanging around in a neighbourhood cafe, with friendly barista and server that actually converse with you. I remember it was our last day of the trip, and it was so nice to experience the extra hospitality. Again this might be one of my to-go cafe should I ever lived in Bangkok, just because I love the vibe so much. Although it is actually really famous for its coffee beans quality, we were there with bloated stomach after lunch and God knows how many boba drink + coffee + other overly sweet beverages days before, so we couldn't really give an objective testimony. Well this one I'll be back for sure so I'll update it whenever I get the chance!

6. Wallflowers Cafe

It is seriously the prettiest cafe we've found in Bangkok, and it's not even on the itinerary! The raw, industrial, enchanting space is well located in a loft above a flower shop. It feels like going into one whole different magical, whimsical place up there, straight from a fairytale. This one doesn't really have any particular food or beverages that stand out (although it was all too, really pretty to see), but those beautiful misplaced interior is just life. FYI, it is located across the Instagram popular cute Nahim Cafe, which was really a disappointment for me. Just go across the street, look around, and find the serendipity.

7. Jardin
This boutique cafe Jardin is actually located inside a mall, but it clearly stands out. It reminds me of Paul or PS Cafe, lost in the jungle edition. The coffee was really OK, but they actually served good looking food here we didn't get to try. Honestly with local hawker serving authentic Thai food awaiting just across the street, it was no brainer for us. Have to appreciate that garden, though!

8. Everyday Karmakamet

I know it was my kind of cafe when it serves coffee and sell stationery. The brand Karmakamet is a famous Bangkok based aromatic and home fragrances (which shop is connected to the cafe). The line Everyday serves coffee, and sells lifestyle as well as fashion retail products. Peeking inside the shop, you couldn't resist to grab one or two aesthetically looking stuff. We ended up shopping something we didn't need (again), but yes, day xxx and still don't regret it!

9. Dog in Town

Special tribute to all of dog lovers out there who would definitely, definitely love this uber cute doggo themed cafe in Ekkamai! As a dog person myself, the very first concern I had was whether these dogs treated well, and the answer is, as far as I can see: yes. The staffs were all really strict to us customers regarding their furry friends, which for me was a good start. Dog in Town also has a reasonable minimum charge for customers who want to sit and play around. Their coffee and food might be a so-so, but who could resist those cute looking puppy eyes?

10. Coffee No. 9
It might fall in stall category instead of cafe, but out of all the coffees I tried in Bangkok during the trip, Coffee No. 9 was one the superior ones (if not the best one). Honestly, I couldn't even drink real black coffee, so I really have no background check to say anything, ha! Let's just put it as one that suits my personal taste the best. Anyway, this one is located just nearby Frank Bar, which served really good chocolate drink (people said it was heavenly, but I was not a chocolate drink kinda person... well, before I tried Patagonia's, at least). And Cha Bar too, which again is a stall but really cute looking one at that! Now I believe you get a glimpse why we were saying we got a drink coma on the last day!
--

Well, that's, I believe, summed up pretty much 10 cafes we love the most during our last trip in Bangkok! We surely haven't got the chance to try everything, but yes we are looking forward to try even more during our next trip there, so if you have any recommendations, please please let us know!
x, Michelle
