Bangkok | 27 March - 31 March 2017
It had
been an amazing week for me to be in the heart of Thailand the past week, and
all through it I could already picture about writing the experience. Bangkok is
nevertheless one of the busiest city I've been at, with never ending passerby
crossing the street and food stalls wherever you go. From the golden-shimmering
temples and the
river that inspires Sunset in Chao Phraya movie, which sounds interesting but
really doesn’t make sense at all, to oh all the Instagenic places and amazing
amazing cheap foods, Bangkok is a fascinating city full of contrasts and I could proudly verify
that the trip would ever be so memorable for me.
Frankly,
I wouldn’t say that a typical Bangkok trip is by any means a sweet-escape in
the midst of busy, my final-paper drama life. Five days clearly are insufficient, especially if you are
planning to take trips to two nearby cities, and go on a shopping spree in the same time. Here in Bangkok I woke
up no later than seven AM and hit the bed after midnight. The trip eventually
drains rather than vitalizes, but let’s laugh it out anyway, because I still
indeed having a great time.
I think
it is important for you to know what to expect of Bangkok. Here are the land of
miraculously cheap shopping, very packed public transportation, traffic jam, careless
crossing, mouth-watering foods, and citizens that respect their heritage so
much. You could really take cheap from the description and get Jakarta, I know,
but that might be the reason we Indonesians love going to Bangkok so much; it feels
just like home.
When you
start embracing the city for it is, it feels much more amazing and fulfilling.
Bangkok might not be Singapore or Hongkong in terms of civilizations, but I
find so much joy in every street food corner that offers the best mango I’ve
ever tasted in my life, unbeatable cheap clothing of Platinum Mall, sleepy,
sleepy eyes all the time, and random commuter cutie in the BTS.
Eventually,
it’s all about the people you are with, and I couldn’t construct a better line
to define it. Bangkok remarks my first (yes, first) trip with the girls I love the most and our plus one, so I
couldn’t possibly complain. I agree that being together in a new place and totally strange
surrounding creates an appreciation of the people you have. Appreciation, and toleration—as it is in the end the one
thing I learn the most from this trip. It was seven heads with seven different
demands; imagine a wrecked situation that might occurs if nobody tolerates.
Where is not
the question anymore when you are surrounded by the people you love the most.
It is about creating a bound you are about to remember forever by memories,
funny stories involving Steffi Tanjung, and unique experiences, including how Elsana almost got deported because of the less-than-six-months passport regulation--please be aware of this! This part would also be the place for me to remark about how important it is to dress proper for The Grand Palace, because we were sadly, pathetically, not allowed to enter after one hour taxi ride because of slightly ripped jeans and no-sleeve attire. Would definitely emphasize this further in my next post regarding places to visit in Bangkok.
Again, travel brings you to wander. Whether sitting in the plane or frustratingly trying to sleep at 2 because you have to be up at 5 on your Air-BNB bed that belongs to someone named Tony, who really is not the owner but a professional host to hire, there is a drive that purposively makes you sense and retrospect, no matter how tired you are.
I can picture myself hanging
out a few years ahead and still talking about this very trip. Too many moments
I missed already, I guess I won’t ever move on. Oh but maybe a next trip would heal! Please tune in for some foods & itinerary guides on the blog! :)
x, Michelle
